Entry slots are available every hour from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Visitors should arrive within the first half hour of their slot. (Please note that the museum closes at 5.00pm, so the 4.00pm slot is only 60 minutes)
Mini Museum invites families with children under 5 to come along to engage, learn and play at Newark's fantastic National Civil War Centre. These weekly play sessions, free for children, offer family fun around the museum including storytime, chances to explore our galleries and playtime in the Tudor Hall.

At the time of his death at the Battle of Preston (1648),Colonel Thornhagh was one of the rising figures in the parliamentarianranks. Commander of all the parliamentarian cavalry in Nottinghamshire,based in Nottingham, he saw extensive military service both within the countyand across the country. In his report to Parliament in 1648, OliverCromwell said of his dead colleague ‘he was a man as faithful and gallant inyour service as any’.
To coincide with the first ever full biography of this longoverlooked Nottinghamshire figure, this talk will examine the career of FrancisThornhagh. It will explore the man, the soldier, the politician (MP forRetford 1646-48) and his evolving relationship with Oliver Cromwell over theyears 1643-1648 .
